Testudo has rebranded in collaboration with Asimov Collective to communicate a new category of insurance for enterprises deploying generative AI. The rebrand fuses Silicon Valley, the insurance markets of London, and the timelessness of ancient Rome to reflect Testudo's mission: standalone Gen AI liability insurance on Lloyd's of London paper.
Underwriting Artificial Intelligence risk without invasive enterprise connectivity requires deep tech and data. Bringing a new insurance product to market in a highly regulated and slow moving insurance industry requires relentless drive and endurance.
There was only one partner I wanted to work with, having listened to and seen the stories of some of their clients. Asimov partner with founders who are creating transformative technology, broadening philosophical frontiers, enhancing human performance and building American Dynamism. Their work for Midjourney, Rainmaker and Monumental Labs made it clear that they had the skill and elite taste to combine the complexity of AI with the traditional elements of insurance. The team is curious, artistic and ambitious.
Testudo is an AI company operating with regulatory licenses, access to balance sheets and proprietary data, with internal systems optimised for agentic workflows and automation creating a fundamentally new type of company. We are also creating a new category of insurance products (insurance being an industry which has historically been seen as slow moving and non-technical). Our founding team has origins in enterprises/financial services and our solutions would have been for us, as deployers of new technology in enterprises. We want to enable and accelerate the adoption of incredible AI technology. But communicating a new category of risk, technology and data to risk takers and risk makers is non trivial. Asimov have provided delight and personality through our branding, fusing the vibes of Silicon Valley, the insurance markets of London and the timelessness of ancient Rome.
The definition of testudo comes from latin for tortoise. It also means a roman military formation where a protective screen is formed by a body of troops holding their shields above their heads in such a way that the shields overlap, like a tortoise shell. This is what our Gen AI liability insurance is for enterprise customers and in the future for agents: protection from litigation and risk transfer. Protection from litigation, risk transfer solutions and pricing exposure is well known in cyber, D&O and Tech insurance markets. It is the story we are now telling: insurance for the AI age. And we look forward to the adventure of becoming the category defining company in this market, with our growing band of auxiliaries, the Asimov team at the spearhead.
Testudo is an AI company and Lloyd's of London coverholder that underwrites the first standalone Gen AI third-party liability insurance for US enterprises. Sold through appointed brokers, the policy responds to claims from generative AI outputs: financial loss from AI errors, defamation and reputational harm, IP infringement, unauthorized data disclosure, and bodily injury. Coverage is placed on A+ (Superior) rated Lloyd's of London paper with limits from $1 million to $10 million. Brokers can learn more and get appointed via Testudo's Gen AI liability insurance page.
